Purpose
Orientation is the characteristic patients notice first and describe last. The Plate Alignment System exists so that the intended orientation of a plate is decided deliberately, recorded precisely and available to everyone who works on the plan afterward.
Introduced in 2008 alongside the Aurum program, when it became clear that design work with any directional character required orientation to be documented rather than remembered. The current platform was released in 2024 and is in use at all nine centers.
The system is used during planning to establish orientation in relation to the patient's own anatomy and, in bilateral plans, across both sides. The resulting record travels with the plan into the Digital Plate Planning System, into fabrication and into any later revision conversation.
Maintained by Clinical Engineering under Clinical Operations, with platform changes reviewed by Clinical Innovation before network release.
AREOLA publishes purpose, governance and patient experience for its clinical technology. Construction drawings, manufacturing specifications, operational parameters and procedural instructions are not published.
