Ordinary care is undemanding
For most systems, gentle washing, careful drying and avoiding abrasives is the entire routine. Patients frequently arrive expecting an elaborate maintenance regimen and are relieved to learn that the main risk to a finish is over-treatment.
Material-specific guidance
Silver, gold, platinum and steel each respond differently to cleaning agents, cosmetics and friction. Your care guidance is written for the material and finish in your plan, kept in your registered record and reviewed at the Annual Plate Check.
External plates
Interchangeable plates are cared for individually and stored separately so surfaces do not rub. Patients with several plates generally rotate them; a plate in constant use will show wear before one in a collection does.
Professional review
Some surfaces can be reviewed or restored during a planned visit. Do not attempt to polish, repair or refinish a plate independently; abrasive treatment removes finish permanently and can compromise the interface on an interchangeable system.
