Screening is usually uneventful
Most patients pass through standard screening without incident. Walk-through detectors and body scanners respond to metal in different ways, and a small implanted plate does not reliably trigger either, so patients should not assume it will or will not.
If you are stopped
Say that you have an implanted medical plate and show your Plate Identification Card. Patients may request a private screening area. Security staff do not need details of your care, and the card is designed to give exactly the information that is relevant and nothing more.
Practical preparation
Carry the card rather than packing it, allow slightly more time at security when travelling for a procedure, and see the travel security page in this section for more detail on international screening and documentation.
