PHILADELPHIA — All nine AREOLA centers will participate in a unified long-term patient experience program, bringing patient-reported outcome measurement into a single national framework for the first time.
The initiative consolidates measurement that had previously varied by center, so that patient-reported experience can be compared nationally and by center on the same basis. It is directed by the Department of Patient Outcomes and reports through the Clinical Quality Council.
What the framework measures
The framework covers experience at consultation, understanding of the documented plan, satisfaction at defined intervals after care, and participation in long-term follow-up. Results are published in the annual Quality & Outcomes Report and reviewed by the Board Quality & Safety Committee.
Participation by patients is voluntary. Where measurement is conducted as research rather than as institutional quality work, it proceeds under the Research Oversight process with separate consent.
The institute has stated that variation between centers will prompt review rather than a performance conclusion, since case mix, travelling patient populations and local practice all affect what a single figure means.
